Business Model Lab

Sustainable business models for SMEs

In the Business Model Lab, I contribute to a workshop format on sustainable business models for small and medium-sized enterprises. The format is designed to help participants move from sustainability challenges toward concrete business model ideas and prototypes.

The workshop starts with an introduction to circular economy and sustainability. This creates a shared conceptual foundation and helps participants understand sustainability not simply as compliance or efficiency improvement, but as a starting point for rethinking value creation.

After this input, we introduce design thinking and guide participants toward formulating a design challenge. Participants then work with 45 sustainable business model patterns to generate a broad range of ideas and move beyond the first obvious solutions.

In the next step, participants develop a prototype based on selected ideas. In the afternoon, they use this prototype as input for working with the Flourishing Business Model Canvas. This allows them to connect their idea to a broader understanding of value creation, including economic, environmental, and societal dimensions.
